Missisquoi River Rail Trail [Franklin]-2 Lifers
Hi all
Among the various spots this weekend this section of the rail trail was by far the most productive for me. East of Sheldon and VT 120, park at oxbow scenic pullover on south, cross VT 105 to get to trail going north. I nabbed two lifers (according to BirdNet 😉 ). I’ve nicknamed this trail the “Chestnut-sided Warbler Trail” I had at least five of them recording multiple singing as well as seeing three of them in various spots along the way. Very birdy trail section–and I was there at 0930.
The two life birds are: Alder Flycatcher (recorded 2x) and Mourning Warbler.

Maybe Three Life Birds [Chittenden]
Hi all
I visited Saint Michaels College Natural Area yesterday. Two other birders on the way out reported Black-billed Cuckoo here but I never saw or heard it. I recorded and BirdNet IDed two life birds for me: Yellow-throated Warbler (out for debate now) and Philadelphia Vireo. I received several confirmations of the Nashville Warbler recording. Got my first Vermont Green Heron, too.

“Mud Creek WMA is Alive!” [Grand Isle] and More …
Hi all
Four stops this weekend … Colchester Causeway Trail (Saturday), Missisquoi NWR HQ Road, Mud Creek WMA and Birds of Vermont Museum (Sunday).
At Mud Creek WMA the forest was “alive and kickin’” on Sunday from the trailhead parking lot and fishing bridge to the first four-way trail intersection. Beyond that intersection it was eerily quiet.

Bobolink!
Mud Creek WMA (Sunday)
As I got into the woods just beyond the fishing pier there was a lot of bird activity in both sound and vision. I must have stayed on that initial spot at least a half hour or so thoroughly entertained by it all. Highlight birds were: Multiple Black-and-white, American Redstart and Yellow Warbler, Blue-headed and Warbling Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Scarlet Tanager, Baltimore Oriole, Swamp Sparrow,

On the Colchester Causeway from trailhead to about the island on south quite a few Eastern Kingbird, three great-crested Flycatcher calling in woods leading to water. Usual plethora of Song Sparrow. 🙂

Hi all
I’m going to call the American Redstart “our returning breeder.” We had pair last year out front we saw from spring to fall last year. This bird singing constantly this morning in “same spot.” 🙂

Also had a Baltimore Oriole yesterday at suet feeder array. First time we have seen one here. We heard them last year.

New Yard Bird (#63) [Franklin]
Hi all
Yellow Warbler singing its’ “sweet, sweet, sweet, I’m so sweet” song in our yard. Knew I’d get this one eventually since there are quite few singing at creek at start of Sheldon Springs Road.
Also, recorded first Rose-breasted Grosbeak this spring breaking out in song this morning, too. Wood Thrush (3-4) continue to sing in early AM and at dusk. One Veery as well.
I still have to upload sights and sounds from this past weekend, Little River State Park and Franklin County wanderings.
Thanks

New Life and Yard Bird [Franklin]
Hi all
New life bird #456 Swamp Sparrow recorded (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/156411641) at Missisquoi NWR this past weekend. Previous weekend many reported hearing on the monthly Missisquoi NWR field trip, thanks!
This morning recorded and heard new yard bird #62 White-throated Sparrow (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/156413041) vigorously singing outside my home office window. There were two or three singing.
Exciting times. 🙂
Thanks
